Gravity connects you with people you should know and people you should be talking to. Learn more.

Welcome to Gravity!

Your curiosity about the site is endearing. We will attempt to satisfy it for you.

What is Gravity?

Gravity connects people with shared interests and helps them engage in meaningful and fun conversations. At Gravity, we believe that everybody is passionate about something, and that when people come together around their passions, amazing conversation happens. While social networks are great for connecting you with people you already know, Gravity connects you with people you should know and should be talking to because they share your passions.

Gravity makes it easy to nurture your interests by enabling group conversations around topics. Gravity is made up of thousands of Worlds, which are user-created topic pages for group discussion and sharing. You can easily discover new Worlds, conversations and people and keep track of them all by clicking the Orbit button. Gravity gives every user a voice and makes it easy for anyone to share relevant thoughts, opinions and experiences.

The Secret Sauce

We’re obsessed with personal relevance. We think that everyone’s experience of the web should be different because no two people are the same. Gravity is building the internet’s Interest Graph to make the web more personally relevant to every web user.

The Interest Graph is new, patent pending technology that enables us to give you a personalized experience anywhere on the internet based on your interests and passions. Similar to how social networks have friend graphs that represent the network of people you are connected to, the Interest Graph is a way to represent everything that you’re interested in. Whenever you participate in topical conversations on Gravity, your Interest Graph is tweaked to reflect these interactions. We take into considerations topic, tone, depth, frequency and a variety of other characteristics. The more you use Gravity, the more your Interest Graph comes to reflect who you are and the better Gravity gets at delivering a personal experience that will make you happy!

Today, the Interest Graph lives on Gravity and across hundreds of our partner sites. As we expand, we hope it will soon be everywhere so that you can enjoy a personally relevant experience no matter where you are. To learn more about how Gravity works, checkout The Science Behind Gravity.

The Gravity Team

Gravity was created by a passionate team of engineering ninjas, product gurus, and business futurists with backgrounds in social networking, internet, media, gaming (we play them), machine learning, and communications. Before Gravity, our team spent time at such fine institutions as MySpace, Yahoo!, Google, NASA, Stanford, Berkeley, USC, and Yale. Now we spend our days and nights hacking away on the top floor of an Italian-inspired, seal-fountain-equipped office complex in Santa Monica.

The Rules

Gravity is about quality conversation. The quality of content on Gravity is based on the collective contributions of our users (i.e., you!). You contribute to Gravity by starting conversations and replying to conversations, by orbiting worlds, conversations and people, and by liking, hiding and flagging content. In order to make Gravity's conversations better and more valuable for everyone, we encourage you to do all of these things!

Gravity has a few simple rules meant to keep our service interesting, fun and useful for everyone:

  1. Engage in meaningful conversation!
  2. Be respectful of others. Some conversations are bound to turn into debates and some debates will end in arguments. It's okay... When this happens, be nice! We're all entitled to our own opinion, BUT we're not entitled to be mean to or disrespectful of others, no matter how right we are. Gravity does not tolerate personal attacks, predatory language, and harassment of any type. So don't do it.
  3. Stay on topic. Off-topic contributions pollute the conversation for everyone. Posting off-topic will hurt your reputation on Gravity. On the bright side, the Gravity universe is large and there's almost certainly a world out there where your contributions will be treasured.
  4. Keep it clean. No pornographic or sexually explicit content allowed. No profane or hateful speech will be tolerated.
  5. Keep it real. No spamming, no advertising, and no solicitation. No impersonating others. No intentionally misguiding people.
  6. Use common sense. If your mother would shake her head disappointedly, then you should probably not be doing it.
